Matthew Cohen (He/Him)

Matt was called to the Bar following a judicial law clerkship with the Divisional Court in Toronto, where he assisted judges with judicial reviews of labour arbitration and administrative tribunal decisions as well as with civil, class action, and regulatory appeals. At the court, Matt refined his approach to written and oral advocacy, with a focus on clear and effective communication.

During his studies at Osgoode Hall Law School, Matt spent eight months in the Workers’ Rights Division of Parkdale Community Legal Services, where he represented both federally-regulated and provincially-regulated individual employees in wrongful and constructive dismissal matters, human rights matters, and employment standards matters before the Canada Industrial Relations Board, Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and Small Claims Court. During his time at Parkdale Community Legal Services, Matt chaired the summer student bargaining unit’s negotiating team to negotiate an improved renewal collective agreement and also volunteered with the Workers’ Action Centre to assist low-wage and precariously-employed workers in asserting their rights.

Matt graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in the top two percent of his class, where he received awards for academic achievements, top grades in multiple courses, and his contribution to Parkdale Community Legal Services.

Prior to law school, Matt was on staff with a Toronto union local in the education sector, where he was involved in all phases of the grievance process as well as member education and engagement.
